She commented that we should not penaliz. Bowman inquired about how many tardy days would make an absence. ![]() Low Fleury clarifying this and noted that this policy does not indicate what is actually happening now. She also confirmed that a robo call is made to the parent/ guardian anytime a student has an unexcused absence or is tardy. She explained that a student doesn’t automatically fail anymore but his/her grade will drop 10 points. She shared her desire to understand why a student is absence, tardy or cutting classes as opposed to causing him/her to fail a grade. When a student has an attendance failure, the policy reads that we wait until the 4 absences before the parent is called. She compared the differences between the AVF policy and when a student is considering dropping out of school. Kelly commented on the section of attendance which includes the attendance violation failure ( AVF) which occurs when a student has four unexcused absences in one quarter. She shared that she believes the Montessori classrooms can be up to a maximum of 30 students which conflicts with our CEA contract. She observed that the Montessori schools have paraprofessionals in the classrooms but we do not have that in all the other Cambridge Public School classrooms.
